Our Best Holiday In Reading,
England 2001

We are three Italian students, two girls and a boy, and we want to speak about a very special student travel in England that we spent together 3 years ago. We met for the first time in the gymnasium of the Reading college (it is situated between the cities of London and Bath as you can see in the map) where we had arrived in the early morning of August the first in 2001. We were there for three weeks to study English.

We were a little bit worried about this new situation because it was the first time that we went abroad alone, and we also knew nobody!! The college was very nice; we had a single room with a single bathroom! Every floor of the building that hosted us was divided in two halls and every hall had eight rooms and one kitchen where we could cook whatever we wanted! We were about 200 people all Italians! In fact we did not practice our English but during the lessons! A typical day during the week was organized in the following way: during the morning we had lessons, our teachers were very friendly and polite and in our opinion it was a pleasure to follow the lessons. The building where we lived was a college that’s why during the afternoon we could chose among a lot of activities like playing basketball, volleyball, soccer. However it also was possible to have relaxation time, for example reading a book in a comfortable and big library. So, as you see, we had a wide range of entertainment during our free time. We would have dinner at 18.30, which was very strange for us because in Italy we used to have dinner 2 hours later! Anyway it was not so difficult for us to get used to this custom. After the dinner we would stay in the college’s pub where you can play billiards, videogames and dance, sometimes in the evening our tutors organized special event like beauty competitions and pajamas party. During the week-end we used to go to London by bus, where we visited a lot of places like national gallery, science museum and so on.

In our opinion this vacation was great because we met a lot of people and because London is wonderful. Plus during the night some of us guys used to get into the girls rooms!
